Scammers benefit from the people who have a desire to work from home, and when that desire grows some people are falling to those scammers.  When this happens, money and dreams get lost.  This is one statistic that you don’t want to be involved in.  Be careful to do your preparation in order not to be tricked.  These steps include: carefully reading the terms of the opportunity and researching the Better Business Bureau, as well as investigating the source of income of the business.

The first thing you should do to avoid a home business scam is research the Better Business Bureau.  This is a watchdog organization that keeps an eye on fraudulent business opportunities.  You can either call them or look up your desired opportunity in their online database.  Regardless of the method that you use, they have a system in place to tell you how above board a home business is, or isn’t.

Once you’re done with that step, have a look at where exactly the earnings of the home business are coming from.  Why is this important?  Because you want to stay away from pyramid schemes.  How do we define a pyramid scheme?  It is a deceitful business understanding where the money from latest members are utilized to pay old ones.  Once new people stop signing on, the whole business will fall apart.

You need to see if a home business is making money from things outside of membership, to avoid pyramid schemes.  Think about Avon, a home business where you sell makeup and additional products.  This is how both you and the company make your money.  True, you can make money from signups, but that’s not the sole source of the business’s income.  This is the reason behind their being considered a genuine home business opportunity.

Anyway, once you have that information, you are ready for the final step: carefully reading the terms and conditions of the opportunity.  A big red flag should be going up for you if you are being promised millions for not much work, or asked to send out promotional materials.  Either one of these might mean that this is a fraudulent mail order business.

Ensure that you are not deceived into a home business scam by carefully following the steps outlined in this article.  And, in the process, you can not only save your money but also preserve your dignity.
